impact resistance

Comparative impact tests carried out on MSS ceiling and wall panels and other wall sections.

Tests carried out under controlled experimental conditions were conducted by Group Development to ascertain the resistance of four types of wall surface to equal energy impacts by both soft and hard bodies.

The soft body was a 50kg sand bag falling from a height of 0.2m or 1.0m and the hard bodies were two steel balls.

Soft body impacts

The MSS wall withstood the impact extremely well and did not sustain any visible damage.

Hard body impacts

At 3J energy impact the MSS wall indented to 18mm diameter although the PVC skin was not broken. At an impact of 50J although fibreglass and Melamine cracked right through, the MSS wall panel sustained a 50mm diameter surface dent but the PVC skin was not broken.
